  • *Plastic & Paper Bag Ban Public Workshop: The City of Carpinteria will be hosting an open public workshop to present the DRAFT Ordinance for the regulation of single use bags & paper bags within the City limits.  The workshop is slated for Wed., Feb. 1, in the Carpinteria City Council Chambers.  The Feb. 1 meeting will feature two sessions, 1:30 to 3 pm and 5 to 6:30 pm.  It’s anticipated that the City Council will be addressing this same DRAFT Ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting in February.  The CVCC highly recommends that you attend one of the workshop sessions, to express your approval or concerns regarding the proposed ban.  If you cannot attend the Feb. 1 workshop, please contact the City’s Environmental Coordinator, Erin Maker, by calling 684-5405, ext. 415 on weekdays, with your questions or comments.

  • *Stormwater Update:  The first Cooperative South Coast Stormwater Community Interest Group Meeting will be held on Thurs., Feb. 2, @ the Goleta City Council Chambers, from Noon to 1:30 pm.  This meeting is open to local business & public agency stakeholders. SB County, the cities of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria & Goleta, as well as UCSB, will be represented. Kimberly True of True Nature Landscape Architecture will give a presentation regarding ‘Low Impact Development’ techniques.  If you are interested in attending please RSVP to Erin Maker, City of Carpinteria by calling 684-5405x415.

  • *Where the Heart Is:  Join the fun @ First Friday in Carpinteria, Fri., Feb. 3, throughout the town.  The Children’s Project @ Main will feature a Valentine making table @ Seal Fountain, 5-6 pm.  The CEF will be at Seal Fountain to show off their new t-shirt design for their upcoming “Orchard to Ocean Run” fundraiser & the Carpinteria Women for Agriculture are offering lovely plants & flowers for sale.   Participating merchants feature ‘sweetheart deals’ & a chance to enter a raffle for a “Romantic Gift.”

  • *Railroad @Linden Ave: As a part of a regional track maintenance project starting in Santa Barbara and ending in Moorpark, Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) is replacing railroad crossings at certain streets including the rail crossing at Linden Ave in Carpinteria. UPRR notified the City of Carpinteria last week that it will be conducting heavy maintenance work on the Linden Avenue rail crossing and will require temporary disruption of vehicle access while the work is being completed.  A full traffic closure and detour on Linden Avenue at the railroad tracks is being scheduled for February 6th and 7th.  All vehicle traffic during this time will be detoured though the State Park.  Notices and detour information will be advertised in the Coastal View News and mailed out to affected residents.  Further questions should be directed to the Department of Public Works at (805) 684-5405 ext. 445.

  • *Neuter Your Cat:  In the month of February, the SB County Public Health Dept will feature a $20 neuter program for cats, called CatNips 2012.  Spread the word to family/friends about this low cost opportunity.  Call Project PetSafe at (805) 934-6968 to obtain the locations/times of these services.

  • *What is a VIN Number?  The California Department of Vehicles (DMV) has developed a newsletter regarding necessity of a VIN number, which is used to produce a history of your vehicle, and a report that can potentially aid car buyers in making an informed decision on purchasing a vehicle you may have for sale.  To receive the newsletter email a request to jluong@katzandassociates.com or call (916) 239-4617.
