Carpinteria Schools The Carpinteria Unified School District (CUSD) takes pride in its schools. With one comprehensive high school, two small alternative high schools, one middle school, and four elementary schools, CUSD serves approximately 2,500 students in grades K-12. District boundaries, beyond Carpinteria proper, reach south to the Ventura County line and north to Summerland.
High academic achievement for all students is the District's main goal. As such, the District implements coherent instructional programs to ensure grade level mastery of the state's academic content standards in the core subjects. Getting to mastery, in addition to excellent teaching, involves activities and programs that allow students and their families to "connect" to their school in a way that instills confidence and motivation. Go to any CUSD school and you will see students participating in enrichment activities, athletics, the arts, field trips to local destinations and beyond, after-school programs, and community events.
Parent education and involvement are also essential to academic success. With the opening of the Main Family Resource Center of Carpinteria, we'll be augmenting services to parents that, cumulatively, strengthen parents' ability to help their children succeed in school. Supported by the Hutton, Orfalea and Bower foundations, Main holds promise to redefine schools' role in the lives of students and their families. For information, contact Dr. Vishna Herrity, Executive Director, at (805) 566-1600.
Finally, no district can achieve excellence without the support of its community. Notwithstanding the substantial support of numerous private foundations, the district appreciates the support of its own Carpinteria Education Foundation (CEF) which provides grants to teachers and funds school enrichment programs. To get involved, contact Development Director Patricia Alpert at (805) 722-5909.
