The Carpinteria Triathlon, a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, is a very exhilarating community athletic experience. Over 800 participants from all over the country take on the challenge of either the Olympic Course (1.5k swim, 40k Bike, 10k Run) or the Sprint Course (.5k Swim, 15k Bike, 5k Run). Over 170 local, dedicated volunteers help ensure a fun and successful event.

The event's first challenge is a swim along the Carpinteria Beach. Known as the "World's Safest Beach," the ocean waters in Carpinteria are usually calm, with gentle surf and currents. The events's bicycle route courses through the area foothills known for their picturesque oak groves with mountain and ocean views. Both the Olympic and Sprint courses offer the competitor a challenging ride, although the sprint course is also very well suited for the novice triathlete. Finally, participants run through Carpinteria on a flat course, motivated by cheering spectators to a finish in the Carpinteria State Beach.

Proceeds from the Carpinteria Triathlon help benefit the City's Park & Recreation youth programs such as the age group swim team, ocean recreation programming, and Carpinteria's Junior Lifeguards. See carpinteriatriathlon.com for more information.
